"My style of teaching is very hands on. I believe that students learn best when given the instrument (CDJs) to play with and allowing them to freely roam and discover the many knobs and effects. With some guidance around technique and procedure on beat-matching, harmonic mixing, and phrasing, students will demystify CDJs, learning them just as any other large instrument, like a piano or guitar."

Mars finds love in the low end, offering up sub-heavy dancefloor shakers for bass-heads and newcomers alike. Drawing inspiration from British bass music history, the LA producer & DJ subverts the genre, using elements of bass wobbles and breaks to create batucada, 2step, and taiko rhythms. She has released with notable Bay Area label No Bias, and played alongside Jamie XX, The Dare, Doss, INVT, Anna Morgan, Bianca Oblivion, and Sybil.

Julia is a DJ, live electronic performer, and music producer who brings real-world club and stage experience into every lesson. After diving into drum machines in 2019, she quickly immersed herself in hardware, production, and performance—launching her live act in 2022 and beginning to DJ in 2023, with dozens of shows across LA and beyond since. She teaches students how to operate club-standard DJ equipment, build and prepare sets in rekordbox, mix in key, and confidently perform, while also offering in-depth instruction in Ableton for dance music production and hands-on training with drum machines, samplers, sequencers, and synthesizers. Julia’s teaching style is collaborative and adaptable, shaping each lesson around her students’ interests and goals to create an engaging, creative, and confidence-building learning experience.

Testimonials

Absolutely loved my experience taking class with the Los Feliz Music & Art Conservatory! my dj teachers, Mars and Julia, were so supportive and knowledgable, they made learning something new exciting and not at all intimidating. highly recommend :)

I took a DJ class here for two months with Mars. Really enjoyed it and hope to return again. The space felt really inclusive and approachable. Mars was fun and did a great job explaining things in a way that was practical and clear but also detailed / contextual. She had a natural way of teaching to everyone’s level. I hope to take more classes here — the programs seem very thoughtfully coordinated.

I took the DJ Fundamentals class with Mars and had a great experience. She struck the perfect balance between technical instruction and hands-on learning, which made it ideal for a beginner like me. I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone with little or no experience using DJ equipment. It was also a really fun and unique way to spend a Friday night.
