James is a dedicated violin and viola instructor with 18 years of experience in music education. He has led chamber ensembles, coached string sectionals, and taught private lessons, always with a focus on inspiring students to connect deeply with music. Guided by the belief that every artist has a duty to share their knowledge, James tailors his approach to each student’s goals, empowering them to see their instrument as a source of self-expression, personal growth, and connection with others.
I teach violin and viola. My teaching practice is anchored in proper posture and form, note-reading, fundamental music theory, and healthy practice habits.
I believe it is the duty of every artist to share what they've learned with younger people in order to pass knowledge forward. A proper musical education enriches everyone's life, equips students with tools they can apply to all facets of their lives in a positive way.
One of the most beautiful things about music is you will never be bored. I am continually seeking to improve myself musically and on my instrument, and I plan to do so for the rest of my life.
I assess each student in order to determine reachable goals. Once that is achieved, I use an approach tailored specifically to each student to empower them and have them identify with music and their instrument as a positive influence on their lives, as a way for self-expression, and as a way of communicating with others.
There are so many pieces to explore and the repertoire is nearly limitless. Exposure to the wide library of music thay has been written over the centuries is essential to any artist. I also derive a lot of inspiration from nature, and trying to communicate that natural beauty through music.
