What do you teach?
Piano, Classical Piano, including Music theory, Scales & Arpeggios, Piano Techniques, Chord Theory, Ear training, and Music Production.
What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?
I want to share my skills and knowledge because music has always been a very important part of my life. I get so much joy out of it. I'd love to share that with others and let them feel the way I feel about music. It's a very rewarding experience.
What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?
I started as a classically trained piano player. After I went to Berklee, I started playing a lot of jazz and pop music, and creating my own music. Writing and producing my own music, using the piano skills that I learned when I was a kid, is the most fulfilling and therapeutic thing ever.
What’s your style of teaching?
I create an encouraging learning environment in general. I think that's what helps students grow the most. Getting to know why they want to learn music, and what their goals are, are very crucial to the lesson. I'll make lessons plans based on how and what they want to learn. For instance, when I teach piano, I usually ask for their favorite song first, and then start there, to make sure they're engaged and interested. During that process, I'm going to include some theory here and there to help them understand how it works on the piano. This gives them an understanding of the basic piano and music theory, and makes sure that they're interested and learning what they want to learn.
What keeps you creatively inspired?
Listening to music and creating my own music. By having inputs (the music I love listening to), and incorporating my musical knowledge, it becomes outputs (my own music). I think everyone is a writer/creator and I'd love to help my students find their own voice in music.
