What do you teach?

I provide American Sign Language instruction in fingerspelling, receptive skills, and basic signs, focusing on practical communication that students can use in their daily lives. My lessons are interactive and student-centered, designed to build confidence and fluency. I tailor each session to the individual’s learning style and pace, incorporating real-life scenarios and hands-on practice. I also encourage curiosity and engagement through questions, discussion, and lighthearted humor, making learning both effective and enjoyable.

What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?

I have been bilingual my whole life. I graduated from Gallaudet University and hold the values of sign language and Deaf culture as sacred. Being able to teach them is a true blessing.

What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?

I have hands-on experience teaching ASL in a variety of settings, including summer STEM camps and pre-education transition programs. I’ve worked with diverse student groups, helping them develop practical communication skills through fingerspelling, receptive practice, and daily-use signs. I am continually evolving by learning new instructional strategies, incorporating student feedback, and developing materials that make lessons more engaging and effective.

What’s your style of teaching?

My teaching style is flexible, student-centered, and fun. I aim to create a space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring ASL in ways that reflect their own unique personality and communication style. I take an intuitive approach by paying attention to each student’s interests and learning pace, incorporating their goals and curiosities into lessons. I focus on making each session engaging and enjoyable through hands-on practice, humor, and positive reinforcement, so learning feels rewarding and motivating.

What keeps you creatively inspired?

I stay creatively inspired by seeing students discover new ways to communicate and express themselves. I’m energized by finding fresh, interactive ways to make lessons engaging, whether through storytelling, games, or real-life scenarios. Everyday interactions, cultural experiences, and the unique perspectives each student brings also spark new ideas and keep my teaching dynamic and fun.
