Landscapes of Dreams

A Watercolor Journey Through Imagination, Color & Nature

What if you could paint a place that exists only in your dreams?

Landscapes of Dreams is a gentle, creative exploration of watercolor, using dreams and landscape as a primary subject to find unity between physical and symbolic space. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the very first time or returning to a practice you once loved, this class offers a welcoming space to slow down, experiment, and discover the joy of painting. Together, we’ll explore the beautiful possibilities of watercolor, learning how to create soft washes of color, delicate details, dreamy atmospheres, and landscapes that feel uniquely our own. Working with beautiful cotton Western watercolor paper, we’ll practice approachable techniques for bringing depth, light, texture, and dimension into our paintings. Along the way, we’ll explore how color and composition can help us express not just what a place looks like, but how it feels.

What We’ll Explore:

The Beauty of Brushwork: Learn simple techniques for creating delicate details, organic textures, and expressive forms.

Playing with Color: Discover how colors interact, blend, and create different moods and atmospheres.

Creating Depth & Space: Explore gentle techniques for bringing dimension and perspective into your landscapes.

Painting from Imagination: Find inspiration in dreams, memories, nature, and the places that live in your mind.

No experience is necessary, and there’s no pressure to create something perfect. This class is about curiosity, experimentation, and finding pleasure in the creative process. You’ll be guided step by step, with plenty of room to follow your own imagination and develop your personal style. Come as you are, bring your curiosity, and enjoy a little time each week to make something beautiful. All levels are warmly welcome.

Meet

Sebastian

Sebastian is a painter and installation artist whose work explores hybridity, identity, and storytelling through ink, color, and Chinese Xuan rice paper. With a background in Art History (BFA, Seattle University, 2019) and exhibitions across the West Coast—including Human Resources and Known Gallery in Los Angeles—Sebastian brings both depth and curiosity to their teaching. Their lessons balance exploration with skill-building: starting with student interests, developing technical foundations, and moving toward creative inquiry. Sebastian encourages students to trust their intuition and discover their unique artistic voice through process and play.

Sebastian Loo (they/he) is an LA-based painter and installation artist working primarily with ink, color, and Chinese Xuan rice paper. Existing in liminal spaces as a queer, Chinese American artist, Loo’s work ultimately seeks hybridity in subjects of disparate origin to question the stories that restrain worldview and systems change at large. Loo received their BFA in Art History at Seattle University in 2019 and have exhibited in galleries along the Western United States including: Soil Gallery (Seattle, WA), Human Resources (Los Angeles, CA), Known Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), and Monte Vista Projects (Los Angeles, CA). In the upcoming year they are scheduled for a solo show at Known Gallery and will attend Salmon Creek Farm Residency. Writing about their work can be found in Nous Ance Magazine, Graphite Magazine, USA Art News, and the Los Angeles Times.
