Meet the Instructor

What do you teach?

Violin. I teach the fundamentals of technique and instructions for a weekly practice schedule including practical practices such as scales and selected pieces students are working on.

What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?

I have a strong passion for playing music and playing the violin and I want to share that with others, as this has opened many exciting doors for me in my life.

What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?

I have played the violin for 14 years. I am classically trained, but have experience playing many genres from Middle Eastern music to hip hop. I evolve by improving and sharing my music with more and more people. A few days ago I got to perform with an artist on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show which was a new milestone for me.

What's your style of teaching?

I am a calm and positive teacher. I make sure to motivate students by setting challenges for them that are exciting and achievable within their skill level. I prioritize listening to students' musical interests when assigning a new piece for them to learn.

What keeps you creatively inspired?

Listening to music.

Testimonials

Soma was my violin teacher for a long period of time and I took her lessons in LA long distance via zoom, but also face to face in Sweden. I’ve had other teachers before, and I can say with zero hesitation that she was the best one. I liked that she was easy to talk to, and how she helped me through my difficulties.

Valerie

Soma is a great violin teacher! Very pedagogical and helpful. Choose her if you want to get the most out of your violin lessons!

Savo

Communication and adaptation are so important when someone is teaching you a skill, and Soma really has those things down. She’s so sweet and friendly! I really enjoyed our lessons together. They were never stressful because she always found the right words to encourage me. I even consider her a friend now, and we send each other holiday postcards. I have zero complaints! I have loved my violin lessons. Thanks to her I’ve even performed live at my local theatre a few times! Thank you so much Soma, you're the best violin teacher!

Sal

I really don’t like it when I can tell a teacher does the same thing with all of their students, like the lessons are rehearsed, but this wasn’t the case with Soma. I could tell she planned my violin lessons specifically for me and that she put a lot of effort into them. And she was really good at analysing me while I played the violin and pointing out every little thing that I could improve, like my vibrato, or how I accidentally slide my bow down the strings, and how my notes are off etc. She gave me some great exercises to better my flaws, and I saw a huge improvement in my skills really fast.

Chase

Soma is the most patient person I know! If you’re looking for a great violin instructor in LA then I really recommend her for your violin lessons!
