What do you teach?

Mindfulness through sculptural practice:

*ceramics
*paper maché
*textiles as scultpure materials

Using the methods above combined with a guided meditation setting up the session as a space for mindful creativity. These sessions will allow you to explore the material intuitively, with support, finding your own method of creative expression through the material. Carving out time to engage with your artistic self, supporting your wellbeing and inner creativity. These sessions are designed to be able to fit into the day of someone with a busy schedule, and will be set up so that you can dedicate this creative time for yourself, and have the possibility to continue working on the creative activity after the dedicated session.

What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?

I believe in the power that artistic practice has, not only for our creativity but also for our mental and physical wellbeing and resilience. Using your hands, thinking creatively and working three dimensionally supports an understanding of the self, a deeper knowledge of material and creative intuition. I enjoy seeing people’s creativity unfold and am passionate about sharing this in an open and sensitive space. I love to be surprised by the process.

What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?

I have a multidisciplinary practice that spans sculpture in an expanding field; I work in stone carving and lettering, metal work, wood work, ceramics, textiles, moving image, text and widely in collaborative and social practice. Collaboration supports me to think differently and expand my knowledge and understanding through the practices of different artists and practitioners. I am curious about methods and learning the craft of a new artform or technique energizes me, and I seek out these opportunities as often as possible. I love getting to know others' practices, no matter what stage in their creative journey.

What is your style of teaching?

My style of teaching is responsive and collaborative, co-creation is important to me and I like to explore what feels right for the individual or group to make the most fulfilling experience. I encourage curiosity and find that creativity works best when you’re led by your own intuition; I can support you in finding that with knowledge of materials and interesting ways to work with them, thinking of these as a stepping stone that you can jump off from and find your own route. Most of all, the sculptural art sessions that I offer should be a space where you carve out time for yourself and explore your own creativity; I’ll support this energy by begginning the sessions with guided meditation/mindfulness, and leading a session that celebrates your authentic creative voice and expression.

What keeps you creatively inspired?

I am most inspired when I’m working with other people, collaboration is integral to my practice, collectivism supports us to simultaneously challenge and support each other through conceptual underpinning and material processes, and to learn together; the next thing that keeps me creatively inspired - learning; I love to try new techniques and materials and believe that curiosity, learning and embracing mistakes is what keeps my creative practice exciting to me.

Testimonials

I just wanted to say thank you for allowing Glashieburn to take part in the Creative Resilience Residency and pairing us up with Yvette - she was amazing! Our children hugely benefited from her nurturing and creative nature, her acceptance of the children as unique individuals and going above and beyond to support them. This type of project is sorely needed in schools currently, particularly with the high levels of anxiety, it has really demonstrated the importance of the arts and the impact on dealing with big emotions.

- Emma Macdonald (head teacher)

I never would have been able to push myself in this way if it wasn’t for your support, I’m really grateful, you’ve heard me and helped me express myself in a way that makes sense.

Thank you so very much for all the art and creativity you have taught me! And all the kindness, care, patience and just general loveliness you have shown me! I’ve loved my friday afternoons and not only has it helped and inspired me to start doing art again, but being part of the group has helped me in so many ways with my social anxiety.
